Sleep deprivation

Sleep deprivation affects everything about a person - both physically and mentally. Ayurveda talks about the different types of insomnia - sleep onset insomnia (when it's hard to FALL asleep) and sleep maintenance insomnia (when it's hard to STAY asleep). There are lots of reasons why someone may suffer from insomnia. As a general rule of thumb, those with sleep onset insomnia should stay away from any food in the evening that's hard to digest, like salads and sushi. For those with sleep maintenance insomnia, stay away from coffee in the afternoon, and spicy food in the evening.
